CCNV has been serving the homeless for 38 years with a staff of volunteers.  All funds are applied to homeless services.

CCNV welcomes volunteers and any donations that will assist us in preparing men & women to return to society as skilled and productive citizens.

Welcome to the Community for Creative Non-Violence's (CCNV) web site.

CCNV is a model shelter with a bed capacity of 1,350 for homeless men, women and children. It is located in the heart of Washington, D.C., just a few blocks from the Capitol.

CCNV, a nonprofit organization, has been serving the homeless community for more than thirty years.

At 2nd Street NW & D Street NW, CCNV and its affiliated outreach centers cover a huge area -- nearly a whole city block -- to meet a huge need.

Mission Statement:

CCNV's Mission is to ensure that the rights of the homeless and poor are not infringed upon and that every person has access to life's basic essentials -- food, shelter, clothing and medical care.  CCNV is also committed to protecting the rights of the homeless, advocating on behalf of the underserved, and preparing homeless men and woman to re-enter into mainstream society as skilled and productive citizens..

Services:

In addition to the shelter and food that we provide for our residents, we also have opened our doors to several on-site service providers.

These providers make available an array of social services to the homeless:

  • drug and alcohol rehabilitation;

  • medical, mental health and dental care;

  • education and and cultural activities.

These service-providers also lend their expertise to help our residents get back on their feet to find employment and housing of their own.

CCNV is committed to assisting
homeless persons become self-sufficient, productive citizens. Leading this effort is CCNV's staff, all unpaid, the majority of whom are formerly homeless.
